The research group of Applied Physical Chemistry Laboratory at the University of Sciences conducted a study on "Li-ion Battery Technology and Green Hydrogen Application for Energy Storage and Conversion." The Li-ion battery technology is poised to become the primary power source for electric vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to internal combustion engine vehicles. Green hydrogen technology is regarded as a clean energy solution to support wind and solar energy, particularly in remote locations where renewable energy plants are not accessible.

As part of the Technology Transfer Platform activities in 2023, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) is organizing a seminar titled "Li-ion Battery Technology and Green Hydrogen Application for Energy Storage and Conversion." The event will be conducted by the Center for Statistic Science & Technology Information (CESTI).
The research group's study focused on Li-ion battery technology utilizing silica/carbon materials with the potential to partially replace commercially used graphite due to cost-effectiveness and performance advantages. Li-ion batteries are aimed at powering electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions from internal combustion engines. Different Li-ion battery formats include button cells, specialized for compact electronic devices like remote controls, watches, computer peripherals, and earphones, and pouch cells commonly used in portable devices.

Furthermore, during the seminar, the research group presented green hydrogen technology, which employs solar energy-assisted electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen gas as a cleaner alternative to fossil fuels. Hydrogen combustion generates only water as a byproduct, eliminating carbon emissions. Depending on production methods, hydrogen can be classified into three categories: grey hydrogen, blue hydrogen, and green hydrogen, with green hydrogen being considered a clean energy solution to support wind and solar energy in remote areas where renewable energy facilities are scarce.

Date and Time: The seminar will be held on Friday, 18th August 2023, from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM.
Venue:
• In-person: 79 Truong Dinh, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).
• Online: Via Google Meet platform

The seminar aims to foster collaboration with businesses in the electric vehicle manufacturing, computer manufacturing, and battery-powered device industries.
